A faith-rooted start, with open doors.
For 40+ years, CPNS has been a Christian preschool quietly grounded in love, kindness, and care — and just as quietly welcoming to children of every faith, race, and background. We believe a thoughtful Christian foundation can shape a child’s earliest years without ever asking a family to be anything other than who they are.
We believe each child comes to us with God-given gifts and talents — created with love and unique qualities. Our work is to affirm those gifts and help each child grow in an environment of warmth, discipline, affection, and grace.
What that looks like in practice.
A Christian foundation isn’t about doctrine in a preschool classroom — it’s about how children are treated. Three values shape everything we do.
Every child is loved.
Each child is greeted by name, known by their teachers, and celebrated for who they are. No favorites. No comparisons. Just warmth.
Kindness is taught.
Sharing, listening, taking turns, helping a friend who’s sad — these are practiced daily. Character formation, the old-fashioned way.
Community matters.
Small classes, dedicated teachers, families who know each other. The kind of belonging that makes a child feel safe enough to grow.
Christian in heritage, welcoming to every family.
CPNS is a ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, but we are not a Sunday school. We are a state-licensed, NAEYC-accredited preschool that welcomes children of all faiths, races, and backgrounds.
Some of our families attend our church. Many do not. Some are devoutly Christian. Many are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, agnostic, or simply not religious. What unites them is a shared belief that the values we teach — kindness, respect, curiosity, and care — are values worth giving every child.
If you’re a Christian family looking for a school that quietly honors your faith, you’ll find that here. And if you’re a family of any other tradition, you’ll find a school that respects yours, too.
How faith shows up day-to-day.
This is the question most families really want answered: What does “Christian preschool” actually mean inside the classroom? Here’s the honest answer.
A short prayer of thanks at snack time
Simple gratitude before eating — short, gentle, and inclusive. Always optional in spirit.
Stories that teach values
Some classic Bible stories alongside many secular children’s books. The focus is on the moral, not the doctrine.
Holiday celebrations
Christmas and Easter alongside celebrations of cultural diversity, the changing seasons, and other holidays families share.
An emphasis on character
Kindness, honesty, sharing, forgiveness — taught through daily practice, not lectures. The Christian roots show up in the ethics, not the labels.
Affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury.
CPNS was founded in 1984 by members of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, a congregation whose roots go back to the 1700s. The church Session authorized a Task Force in 1983 to explore the idea of starting a nursery school, and by September 1984, our doors opened in Rooms 17 and 18 of the church building. We’ve been there ever since.
The church remains our home and our governing affiliate, but CPNS operates independently with our own 9-member Board of Directors that includes parents, educators, and community members. Tuition, programs, and curriculum are guided by educational excellence first — and the Christian values that shape our daily life come through in how we treat children, not in what we require of families.
